Local man charged with larceny

Stecoah – A Tuskegee man was arrested June 5 on charges of larceny.

Benjamin Gary Laney, 31 of 1517 Upper Tuskegee Road, was booked on felony larceny, and breaking and/or entering charges.

The incident in question was reported May 22, when officials learned of a 4-wheeler, riding gear, loading ramps and other items that were stolen from a residence in Stecoah.

Surveillance cameras identified Laney as a possible suspect. Laney admitted to the theft after being interviewed and agreed to take authorities to the stolen items. The 4-wheeler was hidden near his residence.

A September 2019 Fontana Dam incident, in which a vehicle was broken into and stolen credit cards were used fraudulently, was also linked to Laney. He was arrested on the alleged charges and is still awaiting trial.

Laney has since made bond for the June 5 arrest.

An investigation into a utility trailer stolen from Burchfield Contracting is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the Graham County Sheriff’s Office’s anonymous, non-caller ID number at 479-6800.
