Local man charged with robbery

Yellow Creek – A Graham County man remains behind bars after allegedly punching a woman and stealing money from her.

According to an arrest warrant, 46-year-old Michael Todd Williams allegedly punched the victim in the head and nose, before taking approximately $100 from her. The alleged incident took place on New Year’s Eve.

He has been charged with common law robbery, a felony and misdemeanor assault on a female. Under state law, common law robbery refers to the unlawful taking of property from another person through the use of threat or force, but it does not involve the use of a weapon. 

Williams went before a judge on Monday and remains in the Graham County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. He has been picked up on similar charges before. He was arrested for assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon/serious injury, domestic criminal trespassing, and breaking and entering on Sept. 10.
