Tallulah – A two-vehicle accident Friday afternoon on U.S. 129 South claimed the life of a local man.

Larry Vance Williams, 65, of Yellow Creek Road, was traveling in a 2016 Kia Soul near the intersection with Jutts Creek Circle when his vehicle left the shoulder. After overcorrecting, the vehicle went left of center and collided head-on with a dump truck being operated by Matthew Williams of Robbinsville. Larry was killed instantly from the impact.

Traffic was re-routed around Anthony Branch and Jack Branch roads until the accident was cleared. Matthew Williams was not injured in the collision, though the truck he was operating overturned.

Larry’s obituary points out that he was a deacon at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. He was well known in Graham County, as Facebook tributes appeared as news of his passing became more widely known.

“My heart hurts,” Annette Ensley wrote Friday. “There are people that touch you in life, and Larry Williams was one of those to me. He always greeted me with, ‘How are you, my friend?’ and I knew he meant it.

“I loved his visits to the farm to talk. I will cherish the book he wrote that he gave to me.”

“A good man lost his life in an accident and a family was instantly cast into unimaginable pain from the loss,” Steve Odom wrote Saturday. “A husband, father, grandfather and friend, someone I had known, respected and thought a lot of my entire life was tragically lost in the blink of an eye.

“All too often, we have experienced these type (of) events in our county, and because we’re a small community it always hits us like a ton of bricks.”
