Office pitches body cameras

Robbinsville – At the continued meeting of the Graham County Board of Commissioners on June 25, then-Sheriff Joseph Jones presented a proposal to purchase body cameras for his officers.

Jones said a $24,000, non-matching grant has been located and applications for the grant open in October, but the money can only be applied to systems that have already been purchased.

The total cost – with a two-year warranty – comes to $34,953 and Custom Signals has offered 12 months, delayed-payment terms. The purchase would include 21 body cams and chargers for each officer, investigator and courthouse security staff member.

“We’ve had some incidents where it would’ve been useful if we had them (body cams), but we didn’t,” Jones added.

The board agreed to take the quote and all information provided by Jones under review.
