Pair of accidents on Hwy. 129

No life-threatening injuries reported

Two separate accidents in a 2-hour span on U.S. 129 Monday kept local law enforcement and rescue personnel busy for much of the afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the intersection with Grace Tabernacle Road around 2:40 p.m., in response to a man being ejected off a motorcycle.

According to Trooper Brad Hoxit with the N.C. Highway Patrol, a vehicle attempted to make a left-hand turn onto U.S. 129 at the same time the motorcycle reached the intersection, causing the motorcycle to lose control and crash. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a medical facility, while the operator of the vehicle was cited for failure to yield.

The names of those involved have yet to be released. Hoxit did confirm that the motorcycle driver was a Florida resident.

Trooper Corey Greene then responded – along with many members of Graham County Rescue crews – to a single-vehicle accident in the 10000 block of Tallulah Road around 4:10 p.m.

A local resident – who was not identified by Greene – traveled off the shoulder of the road, causing the vehicle to overturn. Medical personnel transported the driver to Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital in Murphy for precautionary testing.
