Robbinsville Tourism board looking to fill seat

Robbinsville – The Robinsville Travel and Tourism Authority Board is looking to fill a now officially empty spot.

Robbinsville Tourism Authority Director Karen Taylor announced at Tuesday’s board meeting that Town of Robbinsville Alderman Shaun Adams had officially stepped down from his seat on the Robbinsville Tourism board.

Adams has not attended the past several meetings and has held his aldermen’s seat in absentia after a June 2020 incident with Mayor Steve Hooper led to a restraining order being filed.

The Robbinsville Board of Aldermen is charged with determining who will fill the now empty seat.

However – prior to the aldermen’s vote – the Robbinsville Tourism board will suggest possible members.

“He basically just said that he doesn’t want to serve on RTA anymore,” Taylor stated.

Members of the board suggested several possibilities, including representatives of the town’s restaurant and lodging sectors. The possibility of bringing on someone affiliated with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians also came up. Some members of the predominately-female board also said they thought bringing on another male member would be a good idea.

With Adams officially gone, Dirk Cody is now the sole male Robbinsville Tourism Authority member.

The board also discussed the possibility of a car show taking place in May or June, and feature cars from the area and beyond. The idea of a car or motorcycle show was first brought up at the board’s December meeting.

Taylor also said she had gotten clearance to host the show at Robbinsville High School.

Taylor added that the annual fishing derby – also not held in 2020, due to the pandemic – was off the table, at least for the spring.
