Robbinsville – Superior Court Judge William H. Coward sentenced Timothy Cecil Walters, 47, of Robbinsville to a minimum of 16 years in the N.C. Department of Corrections during Graham County Superior Court on Dec. 5.

Walters’ sentence could run as long as 24 years, three months.

Walters pled guilty to five felony counts of indecent liberties with a child, as well as five felony counts of statutory sex offense with a child under 15. Under a plea agreement, the charges against Walters were consolidated into one Class B felony count for sentencing.

The charges stemmed from a Nov. 7, 2018 report by a Robbinsville Middle School social worker, about a student’s claims of being sexually assaulted by an adult male at least five times during the previous nine months.

The Sheriff’s Office later arrested Walters, who soon confessed.

Walters is a former Graham County evangelist and detention officer.
