Stecoah – A longtime fixture at the Stecoah Valley Center will be saying goodbye this spring.

Beth Fields announced her resignation as the center’s executive director in a Dec. 1 letter, saying that she wished to be closer to her family. Fields’ resignation will be effective March 31, 2021.

She joined the center’s staff as its programming director 14 years ago and has led the center for the past decade. Prior to coming to the center, she served as Human Resources Director for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League.

After her time at the center ends, she will relocate to Kennesaw, Ga.

She listed the people she got to meet during her time leading the center, and the people who were involved as staff members and volunteers as the part of her position that she would miss the most.

“It’s just all of the people I got to meet, all of the supporters,” Fields said.

“We have a good core audience.”

She said both those who live in the community full-time and part-time, as well as those passing through, had been great supporters of the center and its programming.

“We can’t do this without people chipping in,” Fields said.

She said the center’s board of trustees would likely select an interim director at its next meeting on Monday. Fields added that more detailed plans to hire a new executive director would come by late winter.

In the same letter, she also gave updates on the center’s programming, saying that it was looking at the feasibility of restarting its after school program for January 2021. The program has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
