Robbinsville – On Saturday, the Alpha Iota chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma held their first meeting of the 2024 year at Robbinsville United Methodist Church.
The focus of the meeting was Literacy for Elementary Students; the gathering happened to fall on the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss. With a Seuss theme, the ladies discussed educator collaborations across disciplines, to create interdisciplinary projects that would include multiple literacies and 21st century skills; as well as ways to implement technology and digital resources for literacy development in the education setting.
Members were encouraged to bring new and gently-used books to the meeting, to be given to the hosting county’s school system. Dr. April Tallant shared the educational program for the meeting and provided educators with ideas to integrate literacy across subjects in the K-12 curriculum beyond traditional classes. Successful programs such as the Dolly Parton Imagination Library and Little Free Libraries were discussed and the School-Community Partnerships was also a topic of conversation. The Alpha Iota Chapter collected a total of 413 books for Robbinsville Elementary School.
