Snowbird – The Snowbird/Cherokee County delegation on the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Council will remain the same for another term, following the tribal election held Thursday, Sept. 2.
Each of the six communities elects two representatives to the council. Council members serve two-year terms.
Adam Wachacha and Bucky Brown kept their seats on the council, coming in first and second place, respectively. Wachacha netted 257 votes, while 222 voters cast ballots for Brown. Janell Rattler came in third place with 151 votes and William “Billy” Brown received 92 votes.
Brown will mark his third term on the tribal council.
“I feel very grateful to the people who put me back in, and I feel like they trust in me and know that I will work hard for both communities,” Bucky said.
He said his main focus would be projects and services, including a new clinic the tribe plans to construct in Cherokee County.
“Once we get our mandated masks off, we can go back to our commodities program, having community meetings and getting back to our regular schedule providing services for our people,” Bucky said.
Wachacha could not be reached for comment, but will be serving his fifth term on the council.
