Graham County has netted some money to help its public schools reopen safely in the wake of COVID-19.
According to a press release from State Rep. Karl Gillespie, R-Franklin, Graham County Schools will receive $1,252,350 from the $1.6 billion allotted by Senate Bill 36. The bill was passed in the General Assembly on Feb. 4.
Additionally, Senate Bill 37 will create options allowing for the safe return to the classroom of K-12 students throughout North Carolina.
“With the passage of Senate Bill 37, parents will now have the option of returning their children to in-person learning, thereby allowing parents to determine what they think is best for their child,” Gillespie said.
Other counties in western North Carolina to receive allotments include:
* Cherokee County, at $3,581,720
* Macon County, at $4,672,286
* Clay County, at $1,312,626
The funds will be distributed along Title I headcount lines.
