Robbinsville – A local detective has received a distinguished award from a state-level entity.
The N.C. Department of Justice Sheriffs’ Standards Division afforded Graham County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeff Knight with the Advanced Service Award on June 17. The award was presented to Knight at the sheriff’s office Nov. 16.
Knight received the award for dedicating 21.2 years of service to criminal justice. The N.C. Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission – which works underneath the department of justice banner – meets quarterly to review applications for the award. Minimum requirements are 20 years of experience and over 1,400 hours of law-enforcement training.
Additionally, the Graham County Sheriff’s Office also presented Knight with an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate on Nov. 16. A press release from the office notes that Knight is one of just four, full-time employees across the state that have received the recognition.
According to a news release from the sheriffs’ standard division, the N.C. Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission was created in September 1983, to upgrade the capabilities, competence and proficiency of sheriffs’ departmental personnel, through programs, standards and procedures involving employment, improvement, career development and retention of personnel. Over 25,000 certification files are maintained by the commission.
