Robbinsville – An Illinois man was killed April 20 evening in Robbinsville, when his motorcycle collided with an SUV.
The N.C. Highway Patrol identified the man as Nicholas A. Ralph, a 41-year-old resident of Lindenhurst, Ill. The driver of the SUV was Starla D. Powell of Robbinsville.
At about 8:21 p.m., a 2020 Kawasaki operated by Ralph was traveling south on Rodney Orr Bypass (U.S. Highway
129) near the Quality Inn in Robbinsville. An 2005 Chrysler SUV – driven by
Powell – failed to yield while turning left onto Main Street from northbound U.S. Highway 129, resulting in a collision between the vehicles.
Powell was charged with failure to yield/death by motor vehicle, Highway Patrol spokesman Rohn Silvers told The Graham Star.
The crash occurred after sunset. Conditions were dry and weather was not a factor in the crash.
