Cherohala – An Indiana woman died after being involved in a motorcycle accident June 6 on the Cherohala Skyway.
According to an accident report from the N.C. Highway Patrol, Kelli Ann Hicks, 51, of Michigan City, Ind., was a passenger on a 2013 Harley Davidson operated by 58-year-old Michigan City resident James Robert Stanley. Around 5:45 p.m., the motorcycle overturned near mile marker 9 in the eastbound lane and traveled a short distance before striking a guardrail.
Emergency personnel were en route to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville with Hicks, but she passed away before reaching the facility. Stanley was taken to Sweetwater (Tenn.) Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
