As the Delta variant continues to throw an added wrinkle into the 18-month battle against COVID-19, Graham County has not been immune from the surge.
The data released Monday from the county’s health department reported 788 positive cases, marking an increase of 43 since Monday, Aug. 9. The leap is the largest in a single week since the pandemic began in March 2020.
Further data indicated that 2,074 of the county’s residents have received their first dose of the vaccine, which translates to roughly 24 percent of Graham’s population. Of those, 1,589 have taken the second dose.
According to Monday’s numbers released by the N.C. Department of Health & Human Services, the virus had resulted in 13,880 total deaths across the state, with 63 percent of North Carolina residents taking the first vaccine and 58 percent receiving the second.
Graham County’s case count ranks 96th in North Carolina, ahead of Tyrrell (385), Hyde (690) and Camden (732) counties.
