Topton – Two cars collided – but no one was injured – April 28, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and U.S. Highway 129 in Topton.
At about 1:30 p.m., a 2002 Mitsubishi convertible – driven by Tiffany Jillson of Murphy – was headed west on U.S. 19, approaching the intersection with U.S. 129, according to a N.C. Highway Patrol report.
A 2012 Ford – driven by Donna Kays of Robbinsville – had stopped at the U.S. 129 stop sign before making a left turn onto U.S. 19, into the path of Jillson’s vehicle.
The two vehicles collided, with Kays’ vehicle coming to rest in the embankment on the south side of the intersection and Jillson’s vehicle continuing a short distance, before crashing into several road signs on the south side of the intersection.
Fire and rescue from Cherokee and Graham counties responded to the crash, but there were no injuries reported and Graham County units were sent home, while Cherokee County units took care of the accident scene and the N.C. Highway Patrol investigated.
Damage from the crash was estimated at $6,000 for Jillson’s vehicle, $8,000 for Kays’ vehicle and $350 for the road signs. Kays was cited with a failure to yield violation.
