County transit once again recipients of statewide award
West Fort Hill – The results speak for themselves: if you want a safe trip, Graham County Transit has you covered.
For the fourth time in a five-year span (2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022), the department has been awarded one of six safety awards from the N.C. Public Transportation Association. Graham County’s distinction falls under the “Community Transportation Programs > (less than) 500,000 Miles” category.
“We have an awesome team; I believe we have the best department in Graham County government,” Graham County Transit Director Juanita Colvard said. “The safety award is an honor and well-deserved by the operators.
“The staff is well-trained in safety and always ready to go that extra mile to serve the residents of our county. I appreciate all the hard work and dedication they bring to public transit.”
According to a release from the N.C. Public Transportation Association, winners are gauged via a formula of dividing the total miles compiled by the number of “preventable accidents” – defined as an incident where a vehicle comes into contact with something other than the road (another vehicle, person, building, tree, etc.) in a manner that is avoidable.
