Law enforcement provide local youth with a holiday treat
Murphy – Both the Graham County Sheriff’s Office and Graham County School Resource officers joined forces for a significant assignment Dec. 11.
These brave officers were responsible for safely delivering 29 students from Graham County Schools to Walmart in Murphy and back. While in Murphy, officers teamed up with the students in small groups, providing Christmas money to the students so they could shop for themselves and family members. After the spree, the children were treated to a pizza lunch before coming home.
The annual “Shop with a Cop” program has been a highlight for students at Graham County Schools for several years. The sheriff’s office heads up the program each year, collecting money donated by members of the community.
This year, students were allotted $150 each to shop with the cops.
“It is a privilege to participate in this program,” said Robbinsville Elementary School Resource Officer Josh Reap. “I look forward to it all year.”
“We appreciate the sheriff’s department for taking our kids and making such a huge impact on our kids,” added Robbinsville Elementary School Social Worker Jordan Welch.
