Collegedale (Tenn.) police officer Enoch Hurd passed away 12 days after sustaining injuries in an accident on the Cherohala Skyway.
Cherohala – A Georgia man has passed away from injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle accident on the Cherohala Skyway last month.
According to a report from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 52-year-old Ringgold resident Enoch Daniel Ian Hurd was traveling east on N.C. 143 near mile marker 1 – shortly before noon – Oct. 13, when he traveled left of center and struck a GMC truck that was traveling west.
Hurd was badly injured in the collision and flown to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
Hurd later passed away from his injuries at 7:33 p.m., Oct. 25. No update was available on the driver of the GMC truck.
An obituary for Hurd noted that he was a graduate of Andrews University (Berrien Springs, Mich.) and had served the Collegedale (Tenn.) Police Department as an officer since 2009.
Among various family members, Hurd is survived by three daughters and his mother.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday.
