Deals Gap – A two-vehicle collision Saturday morning sent three individuals to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Around 10:30 a.m., a 2017 Honda sedan being driven by Brunswick, Ohio, resident Tyler Anthony Wampleman lost control of his vehicle about a mile south of Deals Gap on N.C. 28, crossing the center line from the northbound lane and striking a 2020 Toyota SUV, which was operated by Knoxville resident Charlotte Brooke Shergur.
Between both vehicles, six individuals were injured, with two citing back injuries and one with severe chest pain. Three ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with two medical helicopters landing on the bridge just north of Tapoco Lodge.
According to the report completed by Trooper Ty Gibbs with the N.C. Highway Patrol, the Honda was traveling 55 mph in the 30 mph zone. Wampleman was cited for reckless driving.
