Robbinsville – While officials are still exploring options to replace the county’s finance officer, the Town of Robbinsville is hoping it finally has a candidate for the same vacancy that will stick.
Tasha Gubernath will assume the role for the municipality on Monday, March 13, the board of aldermen revealed at the end of a special called meeting on Feb. 23. Gubernath has a background in governmental accounting and will be relocating from Gainesville, Ga., to Robbinsville for the job. She will be compensated $31.25 an hour, or $65,000 a year).
Gubernath is the newest hope for stability after the town released Sonya Webster from the position on July 14. Webster had served as the town’s finance officer since 2018.
Then-water clerk Shari Birchfield pulled double duty to provide a stopgap for Robbinsville, but announced her impending retirement in October and left at the end of January.
From there, Annette Carver initially accepted the job in October, but later declined the opportunity – before having a change of heart and accepting once more in Dec. 19. Citing inadequate training, Carver departed from the role Jan. 4.
Karen Lail stepped into the job next – even appearing in the role at the aldermen’s Feb. 1 meeting – but resigned soon after the meeting concluded.
