Bryson City – A come-from-behind victory showed future Robbinsville Middle School Black Knights opponents that the task ahead is arduous.
Since a season-opening loss at Cherokee, no one has been able to topple Robbinsville (6-1), which started the week with a hard-fought 68-62 road win at Swain on Jan. 27.
Robbinsville got off to a slow start – trailing 20-8 after the first quarter – but eventually rallied in the fourth, going 10-for-17 from the charity stripe and enjoying clutch buckets from Luke Lovin, Roman Jones, Bryce Adams, Quinn Jumper and Tytan Teesateskie to enjoy a 26-17 run in the final stanza.
Adams’ finished the game with 30 points to his credit. Also contributing to the cause was Jones 10, Dane Knott 8, Jumper 8, Lovin 7, Teesateskie 3 and Hugh Forbes 2.
A Jan. 28 boys-only contest with the Martins Creek Hornets resulted in a 69-18 Robbinsville victory.
Leading the crowded Black Knights scoreline was Roman Jones, who posted 9 points. Others to score was Knott 8, Isiac Collins 8, Adams 7, Owen Blevins 6, Trey Lambert 5, Logan Calloway 5, Kisek Teesateskie 3, Drake Anderson 3, Tyler Patton 3, Tucker Jones 3 and Tytan Teesateskie 1.
Lady Knights
Robbinsville’s middle school girls fell to the Lady Devils in the Lady Knights’ (3-3) only game of the week, 53-13. Scoring was Liz Carpenter 6, Jozlyn Garland 5, and Katie Lyn Gross and Olivia Stewart dropped one free throw each.
Monday’s away tilt against Hiwassee Dam/Ranger was postponed until after press time Wednesday.
