Knights mow down division

Robbinsville – Amidst a hectic week – filled with conference matches aplenty – Robbinsville wrestling rose to the occasion.

The Knights disposed of Murphy 74-6 and Hayesville 60-17 in a Cherokee County tri-match Jan. 9, before traveling to Rosman and downing the Tigers 75-6. 

Robbinsville then finished the week with a 63-16 triumph over Andrews on senior night Tuesday.

Against the hosting Bulldogs on Jan. 9, Micah Smith (106 pounds), Kamron McGuire (152), Justin Stewart (160), Jaret Panama (170), Carlos Lopez (195) and Kyle Fink (220) all scored pinfall victories, while Luke Wilson (113), Case Beasley (120), Jayden Nowell (126), Ben Wachacha (182) and Drake Hill (heavyweight) all got their hands raised via forfeit. 

Nathan Fisher (138) earned a technical victory, with Wade Hamilton (145) chalking up a 7-0 decision.

Versus Hayesville, Hamilton, McGuire, Stewart, Panama, Fink and Hill all pinned their adversaries. Nick Anderson (132), Fisher and Lopez each won via forfeit, while Wilson earned a 6-3 decision. 

Only four bouts were contested at Rosman. Wilson earned a 12-10 decision win, with McGuire and Panama each scoring pinfalls. Lopez dropped his bout via pin, with the remainder of the dual giving the Knights victories via forfeit.

During Tuesday’s contest with Andrews, Nowell, Anderson, Fisher, McGuire, Stewart, Panama and Lawson Roberts (220 pounds) each pinned a Wildcat’s shoulders to the mat.

Beasley earned a decision victory, while Smith, Wilson and Hamilton were each awarded bouts via forfeit.
