Robbinsville sets sights on crucial division games
Andrews – Robbinsville’s chance to both avenge a loss and shake up the Smoky Mountain Conference standings awaits them.
The Lady Knights (11-3, 3-3) knocked off Andrews (1-13, 0-7) on Friday, but fell to Cherokee (10-5, 5-2) on Tuesday evening.
Up next is Friday, Jan. 24’s home game with Hayesville (10-6, 4-3) and the first match-up between Murphy (13-0, 5-0) and the Lady Knights, which will take place Tuesday, Jan. 28 in Cherokee County.
The outcomes of this week’s games could have major conference championship, tournament and even playoff implications.
Robbinsville almost held Andrews scoreless for the entire first half of Friday’s win – including a 10-0 shutout in the first quarter – with a running clock going into effect early in the fourth. The end result was a 59-19 victory for the Knights.
Cambrie Lovin led Robbinsville with 17 points. Also dropping points on the Lady Wildcats was Desta Trammell 14, Yeika Jimenez 10, Gabby Hooper 9, Kandace Holder 2, Ava Barlow 2, Lina Pagan 2, Kensley Phillips 2 and Halee Anderson 1.
At Cherokee, the Lady Knights fell behind early, but battled back and kept the pressure on the Lady Braves in the fourth quarter.
But trailing by three with 13 seconds left, Robbinsville’s attempt at a game-tying trey fell short and Cherokee escaped with a 69-66 victory.
