Lady Knights hope to finish strong ahead of tournament

Robbinsville – Entering the final week of the regular season, optimism is high.

Robbinsville (16-4, 6-4) would come out on-top 45-37 Tuesday night in a home game against Rosman, finishing a stretch of three straight victories for a program looking to make a statement when the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament begins Thursday, Feb. 13 at Rosman.

The Lady Knights started the run with a 68-28 thumping of Andrews (1-19, 0-10) on Jan. 30 and a 72-65 road victory at Hiwassee Dam (9-11) on Friday. 

Yeika Jimenez led the offense with 15 points in Tuesday’s win over Rosman. Also scoring was Cambrie Lovin 11, Gabby Hooper 11, Halee Anderson 4, Kensley Phillips 3 and Kennedy Cable 1.

The Lady Knights quickly dashed any hopes of an Andrews upset by building a 24-5, first-quarter advantage and later forcing a running clock for nearly the entirety of the fourth quarter.

Jimenez had a dominant outing against Andrews, scoring a Robbinsville-best 17 points. Other Knights to score were Lovin 14, Phillips 14, Desta Trammell 8, Hooper 4, Kandace Holder 4, Cable 3, Anderson 2 and Karlyn Matheson 2. 

Trammell dropped 27 points against Hiwassee Dam, leading the Knights’ offense. Lovin was not far behind – recording 23 – while Anderson tallied 10. Also adding to the cause was Hooper 8, Matheson 2 and Jimenez 2. 

Junior varsity

In Robbinsville’s only junior varsity game of the week, the Lady Knights (0-9) dropped a heartbreaker at Hiwassee Dam, 44-41.

Chloe Phillips’ 14 points led Robbinsville’s scorline. Other Lady Knights to score were Holder 11, Kandee Stewart 10, Tai Owle 5 and Emma Birnhisel 1.
