Robbinsville – The middle school Knights baseball program has already squeezed in seven games in this short season.
The Black Knights (1-6) downed Cherokee 14-2 in an April 22 road affair, but dropped home games to Swain County (20-8, April 19) and Rosman (14-2, April 27). Robbinsville then traveled to Andrews on April 29, falling to the Wildcats 13-3, before dropping road rematches to Rosman (15-2, May 5) and Swain County (13-4, May 6). A home tilt with Andrews on Tuesday ended in a tough 8-7 loss.
“In this team’s defense, we have a young team, as far as game experience,” said head coach Tommy Adams. “We have been struggling at times in games, but I’m very proud of them and how much we have improved in a short time. The wins will come for this group, in time.”
Quinn Jumper, Luke Lovin and Bryce Adams have each taken the mound. Lovin starts at shortstop, while Bryce is the starting catcher.
The starting infield is also comprised of Tytan Teesateskie (first base), Tillman Adams (second base) and Dane Webster (third base). Platooning the outfield is Avery Webster (left field), Cooper Adams (center field) and Roman Jones (right field).
Adams also noted the group of seventh-graders who are making a name for themselves each day at practice: Adain Adams, Drake Anderson, Taylor Martinez and Evan Menard. Another outfielder, Caden Lail, was recently injured at practice.
