Lady Knights drub Rosman, Andrews
Rosman – Rain has forced several schedule changes, but it has done little to dampen the spirits of the Robbinsville Middle School Lady Knights.
Though the Lady Knights (3-3) dropped a pair of road games at Cherokee on March 12 and Swain County on March 23, Robbinsville got back in the win column in a huge way at Rosman on Friday, knocking off the Lady Tigers 16-4.
Presley Caylor and Anna Williams had back-to-back hits to begin the barrage and later scored on an Abby Adams double. Keilee Pressley and Liz Carpenter followed with RBI singles, while Olivia Stewart and Bailie Conley later picked up hits of their own.
When the dust settled on the top of the first, Robbinsville led 6-0 and never looked back. Adams and Pressley doubled again in the second – the latter for another run – with Carpenter and Claire Barlow getting in on the fun with respective scoring singles and doubles in the second and fourth.
Five Robbinsville singles later produced five runs in the fifth, to put the game out-of-reach. Pressley mowed down 11 Rosman batters in the victory.
The Lady Knights then completed the season sweep of Andrews on Tuesday, picking up a 14-3 win.
Ella Atwell tripled in the first inning, while Sydney Adams and Payton Odom both doubled. The quick 4-0 lead was followed by Williams sprinting around the bags for an inside-the-park homer in the second.
Caylor jumpstarted a lengthy fourth inning with a double. Hits from Odom, Dreylee Webster, Lakelyn Eller and Tiara Carpenter each drove in runs, with the collective effort resulting in nine Robbinsville runners crossing the plate.
Plenty of field time
Robbinsville’s 12-9 loss at Cherokee started with a lot of promise, as Pressley doubled home Conley and Williams in the top of the first.
But Cherokee pulled ahead 3-2 in the second and pulled away in the fourth, plating seven runs. The Lady Knights chipped away at the deficit – including three runs in the top of the seventh – but were unable to complete the rally.
Pressley scored the Lady Knights’ only run in the second inning at Swain, which temporaily tied things at 1-1. But the Lady Devils were able to keep Robbinsville’s offense at-bay for the remainder and tacked on some insurance along the way to pick up a 5-1 victory.
The Knights returned home Monday to host Swain in the rematch. Robbinsville fell to the Lady Devils by the same margin as the first outing, 5-1.
The lone Lady Knights run of the game came in the second, with Barlow singling home Carpenter, who had led off the bottom portion of the frame with a double. The run temporarily put Robbinsville ahead 1-0, but two Swain runs in the third shifted the momentum and the Lady Devils would tack on three more in the top of the sixth.
