Robbinsville remains No. 1 team in state
Robbinsville – For the second-straight week, the Lady Knights sit atop the 1A rankings.
Robbinsville (14-1) mowed down Cherokee (2-12) in a 25-12, 25-17, 25-19 road sweep on Sept. 26, before defeating Hayesville (11-6) in a 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 home victory on Tuesday’s special Pink Night.
Needless to say, the Knights are powering through the remainder of the season docket at a pace not seen in recent memory.
“We’re just trying to keep the girls focused for the remainder of the season,” said Robbinsville head coach Kadey Phillips. “We’ve been working on changing some stuff up, staying fresh on the court and bringing in some new things that will keep everybody on their toes. Hopefully, that will carry us through the rest of the season.”
The focus now shifts to a big rematch at Murphy, which will take place later today.
Robbinsville downed the Lady Bulldogs for the first time in four years on Sept. 5.
The showdown could also have huge playoff implications, as the Lady Knights look to hold on to their No. 1 ranking against the No. 4-ranked team in 1A.
“I believe if we play to our potential, we’ll pull out a win,” Phillips said. “With some of the new things we’ve been working on, hopefully that will give us an advantage over them.”
