Strong defense gives JV opener to Knights

Cherokee – There was no getting past the Robbinsville defense, and there was no stopping the Robbinsville offense.

In the junior varsity season opener Feb. 25, the Black Knights traveled to Cherokee and held the Braves to just 60 total yards in a 56-6 trouncing.

“If I had to pick a standout, it would be our defensive play,” Knights head coach Wren Millsaps said. “The line dominated; the linebackers made the tackles they were supposed to and the secondary was airtight.”

Meanwhile, Robbinsville finished the game with 287 yards of offense; 239 of those came on the ground.

Cooper Adams had two rushing touchdowns for the Knights, recording 115 yards on the ground and finding the end zone on two occasions. Quarterback Donovan Carpenter went 2-for-3 in the air, finishing with 48 yards.

Dalton Hill’s 44-yard run jumpstarted Robbinsville’s offense in the first quarter, but suffered a broken collarbone later in the game.

“The loss of Dalton Hill will be felt, as he was a huge part of what we do on both sides of the ball,” Millsaps said.

Roman Jones would recover a blocked kick and return it 45 yards for another touchdown, while Zeke Silvers started the second half with a 77-yard kickoff return for the Knights.

“I thought we played pretty well for our first game,” Millsaps said. “We have a really talented group of young men.”
