Middle school baseball gets first win
Martins Creek – It took a few games to bring it all together, but the middle school Black Knights finally moved into the win column Friday.
In a road trip to Martins Creek, Robbinsville (1-3) knocked off the Hornets 5-2, thanks in part to a well-rounded afternoon from Rylen Orr.
In six innings of work, Orr struck out six Martins Creek batters. Aiding his own cause, Orr went 3-for-4 at the plate, with two doubles, a single and two RBIs to his credit. Coming across the dish for Robbinsville was Ayden Conley, Deacon Hyde, Tyler Martinez, Orr and Everette Taylor. Peyton Brooks also drove in a run.
Luke Lovin earned the save, striking out the side in the bottom of the seventh.
Unfortunately, the Knights could not carry the momentum over to Tuesday’s foray to Bryson City, as Robbinsville fell 13-3 to the Maroon Devils.
First loss
Bryson City – In a stunner, the middle school Lady Knights saw their undefeated season come to an end Tuesday, as Swain County picked up an 11-1 win.
Even though Robbinsville (4-1) struck first, the Lady Devils thundered back to regain the lead and methodically roped hits that evaded the Knights’ gloves.
The Lady Knights easily handled Martins Creek on Friday, 18-0. Individual stats from both games were unavailable by The Graham Star’s press deadline.
