Another Black Knight joins exclusive club
Charlotte – Just two weeks removed from teammate Loxston Hooper picking up career victory No. 100, Black Knight grappler Skyler Anderson accomplished the same feat during Saturday’s Jim Hayes Invitational.
The 113-pounder mowed over Charlotte Catholic’s Jackson D’ettore, Piedmont’s Mason Newman and Ardery Kell’s Ian Whitt to win his weight class at East Mecklenburg High School – the latter bout ending in a 25-5 technical fall.
Anderson (17-1) was joined by Adair Panama (120 pounds, 16-2) in triumphing over the competition. Panama knocked off Myers Park’s Koen Hsu, South Mecklenburg’s Jake Economon and Central Davidson’s Carson Manuel to stand atop the podium.
Twins Loxston Hooper (132, 17-2) and Lleyton Hooper (144, 16-3) joined heavyweight Jonah Teesateskie (3-8) in a second-place finish in their respective fields, while Landon Mantz (106, 15-4) and Devin Hall (150, 12-6) both placed third. Jeremiah Phillips (165, 19-6) took fourth in his weight class, while Ethan Webster (126, 15-7); Knox Orr (138, 5-7); Bobby Moore (150, 5-8); Braydon Lane (157, 2-9); Luke Green (157, 2-9); and Christian Koeller (190, 1-9) also competed for Robbinsville.
Overall, the Black Knights finished second in the race for the team championship – posting 181 points. Piedmont won the tournament, with 185 points.
The invitational came just one day after the Knights’ return to dual competition. Robbinsville (9-4) went 2-1 in a quad at Cherryville, edging Alleghany 34-32 and besting the hosting Ironmen 61-18, but falling to Uwharrie Charter Academy 57-18.
The Black Knights hit the mat again Tuesday, traveling to Gibbs (Tenn.) for a tri-match. The only results available at Wednesday’s press deadline was a 57-18 win over Scott (Tenn.)
Lady Knights
Hendersonville – Robbinsville (3-6) also worked its girls program back into dual action Saturday, with the Lady Knights traveling to North Henderson to compete in the Crusade for the Crown.
Losses came against Boiling Springs, 42-18; the hosting Lady Falcons, 40-24; and Swain County, 60-12. The Knights did attain a 31-30 triumph over Smoky Mountain, however.
Jacquline Gayosso (138), Cheyanne Geyer (145), Julia Vazquez (114) and Alexis Miller (120) each picked up forfeit wins for Robbinsville, but Madison Cable’s pinfall at 3:54 over Melanie Reyes at 126 pounds proved to be the deciding factor.
Results were not available at press time from Tuesday’s action at Gibbs (Tenn.)
