Lady Knights advance to first Sweet 16 since 2019
Robbinsville – Pitted against a team that matches up well against them on the other side of the net, the Lady Knights were tasked with knocking off a divisional foe in their 2025 playoff debut Tuesday.
Though victorious in both outings against Rosman (No. 12, 6-16) during the regular season, Robbinsville (No. 5, 13-11) was pushed to the limit in every set contested with the Lady Tigers.
The second round of the postseason continued the narrative – until the Knights finally broke free in the final set to send Rosman packing after a 25-27, 24-26, 16-25 home victory.
The opening stanza was hotly contested from the opening serve, with the biggest advantage coming when the Lady Tigers opened a 15-12 lead midway through. Robbinsville battled back from the deficit to pull ahead 16-18 and took the set on a net violation.
Late in set two, the Knights were ahead 17-21 before a series of misreads and poor communication allowed Rosman to surge back and take a 23-21 nod. Fortunately, Robbinsville gathered its bearings and took the commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
After set three paced itself to 4-4 deadlock, the Lady Knights pulled away on a 1-10 run.
The Tigers never posed a serious threat from that point forward and a return error ultimately eliminated Rosman from the postseason.
Robbinsville travels to Bethany Community School (No. 4, 15-10) today, for its third-round competition.
The Lady Wolves finished third in the 1A/2A Northwest Piedmont Conference this season.
