Robbinsville’s up-and-coming players still pursuing perfection
Andrews – Visits to Hayesville and Swain County are all that stand between the JV Black Knights and a conference title.
Robbinsville gnashed the Andrews Wildcats from the opening kickoff Sept. 7, taming the hosts’ efforts in a 34-0 shutout at Hugh Hamilton Stadium.
“It was a great game and everyone on the team got to play,” said Knights head coach Wren Millsaps. “This team keeps improving on a weekly basis. I’m super proud of them and the complete team effort.”
How dominate was the showing? Elijah Kirkland took the second snap of the game from scrimmage and sprinted 51 yards for a touchdown. He then ran in a conversion, with Benton Gibby joining the fun on a 2-yard scoring dash. Cameron Allison toted the extra two into the end zone, then unleashed a barrage of three more punches that included runs of 65 yards, 25 yards and 65 yards again – the latter a pick-six.
Failed conversions held the score at 34-0 for the entire second half, but it did not help Andrews’ cause that the Black Knights defense proved stout in the final 20 minutes of the affair.
Kickoff at Hayesville will be at 6 p.m.
