With the conclusion of the 2022 spring sports season in the rearview mirror, the All-Smoky Mountain Conference baseball and softball awards were recently announced.
The Robbinsville Lady Knights cleaned up, by virtue of their fifth-straight divisional title. Robbinsville was a perfect 12-0 in the conference, and skipper Billy Knight was given the Coach of the Year Award.
Memory Frapp and Zoie Shuler were named the respective Pitcher and Player of the Year. Both were joined by Aynsley Fink, Patience Frapp, Ivy Odom and Brook Turpin on the All-Conference roster. Ally Ayers received an honorable mention.
As the ace of the pitching staff, Memory logged 97 ⅔ innings of work as a sophomore, posting a 13-3 record, 1.72 ERA and fanning 108 batters. At the dish, she batted .479, with three home runs and 24 RBI.
Fellow classmate Shuler touted a .554 average at the end of the season, with eight doubles, seven triples, seven home runs and 44 RBI. She also swiped 22 bases.
Known for her speed and proficiency for slap hits, Fink rounded out her career with a .474 average, which included 32 hits, 12 RBI and 27 stolen bases. Patience batted .269 in her final season with the Lady Knights, with seven doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI mixed in.
Odom found a groove at the plate this year, ending her high school career with a .457 average during the campaign, seven home runs and 33 RBI. Turpin was also no slouch in the slap-hit department, flying down the first-base line and ultimately compiling a team-high .568 batting average as a result. She posted 41 singles, 15 RBI and 24 stolen bases as well.
The Lady Knights went 20-3 this season, advancing to the the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s 1A playoffs.
