Black Knights returning to gridiron Friday
Robbinsville football fanatics, rejoice: the boys will be putting their pads back on soon enough.
For the first time since Aug. 27, the Black Knights (1-1) will play under the Friday night lights – but will have to travel out of state to do so, as the Lenoir City (Tenn.) Panthers will host Robbinsville. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
The game is a welcome trek for the Knights, who had to cancel non-conference games against Mountain Heritage and Smoky Mountain due to COVID-19 protocols. Robbinsville tried valiantly to schedule a game for Sept. 17 after resuming activity Sept. 13, but was unable to solidify an opponent.
“We’re excited,” Black Knights head coach Dee Walsh said. “It’ll be a good game.”
Robbinsville will return home Friday, Oct. 1, when the Black Knights begin the Smoky Mountain Conference portion of their schedule against Swain County (2-2) on homecoming night.
Lenoir City (1-4) is a 5A school under the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association umbrella. Much like the Knights, this will be the Panthers’ final non-conference game of the year. Broadcasting will be handled by the National Federation of High Schools Network.
The school is at 1485 Old Hwy. 95 in Lenoir City.
