Robbinsville – As head coach Brent Icenhower astutely put it afterward, “We finally put together a full game.”
The Robbinsville Black Knights snapped a 7-game losing streak April 7 in convincing fashion, picking up their first Smoky Mountain Conference win of the season with a 15-5 triumph over Cherokee at Loudon Orr Memorial Field. Though the Braves struck first, Robbinsville (3-8, 1-6) pushed two runs across the plate in response, before stringing together a 7-run second.
Highlighting Robbinsville’s onslaught was a solo homer from Graylen Orr and a grand slam, thanks to Ethan Orr – the latter would finish with four RBIs – while Alex Knight, Kade Garrison and Lathan Buchanan each doubled.
Carson White picked up his first win of the season on the mound, holding the Braves to just two hits and striking out eight.
Hot bats
Candler – Robbinsville could not tame the Brevard Blue Devils (9-5) in a neutral-site game Monday, falling 15-5 at Bob Lewis Field in Candler. Buchanan amassed two RBIs in the game for Robbinsville, while also piecing together a 2-hit evening.
Cougars tamed
Robbinsville – The Knights continued to enjoy all the comforts of home Tuesday, welcoming Copper Basin and swiftly handing the visitors a 14-4, 5-inning loss.
Robbinsville fired off a 7-run bottom of the second, bolstered by back-to-back, 2-run doubles off the bats of Graylen Orr and Christian Phillips. Phillips later tacked on the eighth Knights run on a flyout in the third, which drove in Knight. The Knights put the game away on a long RBI single by Ethan Orr in the fifth – which scored Buchanan – and a hit from Knight to score Ethan.
