Robbinsville – The home debut of the varsity basketball program Friday can only be viewed as a rousing success.
Welcoming Blue Ridge School, the Lady Knights improved to 1-1 with a 51-19 victory in the opener. The Black Knights (2-0) ended the proceedings by cruising to a 61-21 triumph over the Bobcats.
Robbinsville built an insurmountable lead early in the girls contest, with consecutive quarters of 18 points building to a 36-9 halftime advantage. The underclassmen shined bright, with freshman Zayleigh Chekelelee hitting 17 to lead the scoreline. Sophomore Zaelyn Phillips was hot on her heels, connecting for 16 in the win.
Also scoring for the Lady Knights was Novie Dutcher 5; Maleah Cox and Abby Wehr, 4 each; and both Emory Chekelelee and Bentley Riggins, 2 apiece.
Brooklyn Kenney scored 17 of the Lady Cats’ 19 points in the game, while McKenzie Woods made the other basket.
The nightcap was much of the same, with the Black Knights racing ahead 29-3 in the first period and heading into the locker room ahead 49-11.
Luis Rosado muscled his way to the forefront of Robbinsville’s scoreline, posting 17 in the rout. Dane Knott had 15, while Nathan Frederick recorded 13.
Others to score were Kristian Bauzo 5; Trevor Jenkins and Easton Shuler, 3 each; Landon Eddings and Bam Nelms, 2 apiece; and Khayton Swimmer 1.
Evan Pressley’s seven points led Blue Ridge School.
Robbinsville will return to the court Tuesday, making the trip to Cashiers to face Summit Charter in varsity-only action. The girls opener will tip-off at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow.
