Black Knights stay true to form, despite 11-day break
Hiwassee Dam – Black Knights head coach Brent Icenhower tried in vain to schedule games for Robbinsville over Spring Break, worried the team might lose a step while on the extended break.
But those fears were quelled right off the bat in the Knights’ return from the pause, as the best start in program history rolled on Tuesday in a 10-1 road thumping of the Hiwassee Dam Eagles.
Robbinsville (8-3, 6-1) spread four runs across the first and second innings, before unleashing a 6-run downpour on Hiwassee Dam (4-5, 4-3) in the top of the seventh.
When all was said and done, Graylen Orr and Quinn Jumper both doubled in the drubbing, but Ethan Orr turned heads yet again by sending his fourth homer of the campaign (a 3-run shot) to the border of Highway 294 amid the seventh-inning spark.
The Orr tandem once again handled matters on the hill, with Graylen lasting 5 ⅓ innings and mowing down four batters. Ethan was spotless in relief, striking out three Eagles to polish off the win.
Robbinsville hosts Rosman in a non-conference clash at 4:30 p.m., today; the game will be live-streamed at grahamstarsports.com. Friday will bring Hiwassee Dam to Loudon Orr Memorial Field to wrap up the season series; before the Knights venture to Clay County for their first challenge against the divisional-leading Hayesville Yellow Jackets (11-2, 8-0) on Monday.
