Robbinsville – It's no secret that Black Knights wrestling has built a strong reputation for itself.
The championship tradition has spurned numerous candidates for collegiate programs to choose from – and Ottawa (Kan.) University has recently zeroed in on "The Ville's" top talent.
Skyler Anderson became the third Knights grappler to sign with the Braves in two years May 5, after the sibling combination of Ainsley Fink and Jayden Nowell both joined Ottawa in 2023.
"It feels great to sign," Anderson said. "I didn't think I would make it this far, because I started later than everyone else."
The reigning 106-pound, 1A state champion went 50-2 his senior year at Robbinsville. He also received interest from the University of Mount Olive, but opted to go with Ottawa.
The Braves compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)'s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
"I started wrestling because of (assistant coach) Billy (Knight)," Anderson explained. "He asked me over and over to wrestle. I gave it a shot and I liked it, so I stuck with it."
In addition to Knight, Anderson credited assistant coaches Weston Haney and Arlus Orr for the success he experienced as a Black Knight.
He is undecided on a major.
