JV Knights pick up split of divisional championship
Robbinsville – From start to finish, there may not have been a more improved team this season than the junior varsity Black Knights.
The gradual increase in performance was capped Sept. 28, when Robbinsville (5-2) held a normally potent Hayesville offense to a mere six points under the Big Oaks, showing why the future is bright for the Knights in a 26-6 conquering of the Yellow Jackets.
“This was one of the most complete games that we played all season,” Robbinsville head coach Wren Millsaps said. “The Hayesville running back (Tre Graves) was legit and our defense held strong.
“The defensive backs really stepped up and got better every week.”
Isiac Collins had two touchdowns for the Knights in the title clincher, which were wedged between Adair Panama’s 9-yard scoring run in the first quarter and Tillman Adams’ 4-yard touchdown stamp in the fourth.
Season reflections
The Knights outclassed their opposition 189-92 this season and did not allow more than six points in three different games.
“The goal of JV football is to win championships and get better every game,” Millsaps said. “This group did that and then some. Black Knights fans should be proud and excited for the future. The boys are driven and determined. They have set a goal for their future and if they put in the work in the classroom, on the field and in the weight room, the sky is the limit.”
