Hayesville – Everywhere you looked, the Lady Knights glimmered in their season opener.
Tasked with traveling to Hayesville to kickstart the campaign, Robbinsville (2-0) promptly went on a hitting tear across the second, third and fourth innings. Mixed with a no-hitter from sixth-grader Presley Caylor, the Lady Knights trumped the Lady Jackets in five innings, 10-0.
Caylor stymied nine Hayesville players at the plate, while going 2-for-4 at the plate and recording a run to aid her cause.
Leading the onslaught was Anna Williams, who was a perfect 4-for-4, with a double and three trips across home on the afternoon.
Kennedy Spencer went 3-for-4 – scoring twice – while Daphne Barlow and Payton Odom also posted a .500 average in the game. Barlow accounted for two of the Lady Knights’ runs.
On the other side of the Clay County Recreation Department, Robbinsville could not get out of first gear in the Black Knights’ debut, falling 16-0.
The Lady Knights then knocked off Hayesville in a home rematch 15-2 on Tuesday. Due to poor field conditions, the baseball pairing between the Knights and Jackets was postponed.
