JV Knights pushing for share of divisional title
Robbinsville – Just six days prior to challenging for a piece of the pie, the junior varsity Black Knights put on a showcase.
Robbinsville (4-2) showed just why its belongs in the title picture, delving deep into the playbook to unload a myriad of scenarios on the visitors from Andrews, thrashing the Wildcats 59-6 at Modeal Walsh Memorial Stadium.
“This game was a good test for my younger guys,” said Robbinsville head coach Wren Millsaps. “We have had some battles over the past few weeks and it was nice to see the young linemen open up holes for Drake (Anderson), Easton (Shuler) and Jeremiah (Phillips).”
The outcome was never in question. A scant 1:13 into the dance, Adair Panama zipped through the line and dashed 48 yards for a touchdown.
Andrews’ first possession ended in a safety, with Waldroup dropping Wildcats’ quarterback Davis Jordan in the end zone. Jeremiah Phillips’ toted the conversion across the line and after Owen Blevins fell on a Wildcats’ fumble, Anderson stamped a 1-yard score into the books. Tristen Blevins’ conversion dash then made it 40-0, Knights.
Andrews’ lone score of the affair came on the ensuing kickoff, when Sam Bateman broke free and scored on a 77-yard return. Robbinsville promptly thwarted the conversion attempt, before seizing all the momentum once again on a 33-yard Shuler touchdown run.
The Knights tacked on insurance in the second half, with Phillips recording a pair of 9- and 12-yard touchdowns across the third and fourth quarters. Collins even split the uprights for a rare junior-varsity extra point to round out the scoreline.
