Cherokee – Two matches stand between the Lady Knights and a long-awaited return to the friendly confines of home.
Robbinsville has been inundated with road matches this year, including playing the first 5-of-6 Smoky Mountain Conference affairs outside its home gym.
The Lady Knights have looked sharp against non-league opponents, but have failed to garner crucial victories in divisional showdowns.
Following tonight’s journey to Murphy (7-7, 1-4), Robbinsville will see the remainder of its conference slate take place at home: Andrews (5-7, 0-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 1; Hayesville (10-4, 4-1) on Thursday, Oct. 3; Swain County (10-4, 2-3) on Tuesday, Oct. 8 (which is also Pink Night); and Thursday, Oct. 10’s regular-season finale against Cherokee (15-1, 6-0; Senior Night).
The Knights will also squeeze in one final non-conference match Monday, as they travel to Franklin (16-1).
Recent action has produced a mixed bag of results. Robbinsville (14-5, 2-3) swept Hiwassee Dam (3-11) on Monday, Sept. 23: 25-15, 25-11, 25-13; but was unable to knock off Swain County (a 21-25, 17-25, 25-15, 21-25 loss on Sept. 19) and Cherokee (a 3-set loss Tuesday; individual set scores were not made available to The Graham Star by Wednesday’s press deadline).
JV, middle school
Robbinsville (3-8) dropped a pair of JV matches to Swain (25-22, 25-27, 12-15) and Cherokee. Individual set scores from the loss to the Lady Braves were not available by Wednesday’s press deadline.
In the middle-school ranks, Robbinsville was 2-4 entering Tuesday’s road match.
The Lady Knights incurred a loss to Swain County, before dropping a 17-25, 25-27 match to Hiwassee Dam/Ranger on Monday.
The final outcome of Tuesday’s match at Cherokee was also not available by Wednesday’s press deadline.
