Burnsville – Last year’s Robbinsville JV football team led Mountain Heritage early in a neutral-site game at Tuscola.
This year’s narrative was a bit more lopsided – and not-too-favorable to the Black Knights. Mountain Heritage’s freshman-heavy squad hosted Robbinsville on Aug. 24 and slowly built a 38-6 victory over the Knights.
Cameron Allison’s rushing touchdown late in the second quarter was the only dent Robbinsville (1-1) made on the scoreboard.
“We faced a really good team of ninth-graders that were big, fast and strong – a team that I’m sure will be one this group will have to go through in the future,” said Knights head coach Wren Millsaps. “This loss was a reality check. We have to get better; I have to get better.”
With the non-conference tune-ups out of the way, Robbinsville shifts its focus to the divisional opener tonight against Cherokee. Kickoff on Bob Colvin Field will be held at 6 p.m.
“I like our chances the rest of the season,” Millsaps said. “This is a resilient group of kids with tremendous talent.”
