Robbinsville – A third-quarter lead slipped away late for the junior varsity Black Knights, who fell to 1-2 on Sept. 1 by dropping a 12-8 heartbreaker to conference foe Swain County at Modeal Walsh Memorial Stadium.
The Maroon Devils led the affair 6-0 at the break, after slipping a 14-yard touchdown heave past the Knights’ defense. Robbinsville marched ahead for its only advantage of the affair in the third quarter, when Isiac Collins bullied his way into the end zone on a 3-yard carry.
A conversion run temporarily gave the Black Knights the nod, but the Devils struck in the air again in the final segment, a 17-yard scoring toss that cemented Swain’s triumph.
Tillman Adams recorded 132 yards on 19 carries, to lead the Knights’ rushing attack. Collins led a Robbinsville defense – which limited the Devils to (-7) rushing yards – with six tackles.
Adair Panama had four tackles and a sack.
The Black Knights look to steady the ship today, traveling to Ray Kinsland Stadium at Cherokee for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
