JV Knights dismantle Mitchell in season debut
Candler – A mere 66 yards offensive yards surrendered.
Robbinsville (1-0) made a resounding statement in its first junior-varsity contest of the year, played Aug. 18 at a neutral site – Enka High School.
The opposition? The Mitchell Mountaineers. While their varsity counterparts reached the state finals last season – which came after defeating Robbinsville in the Western finals – the junior varsity were thwarted at every turn and circumstance against the JV Knights, who showed Mitchell has its work cut out for it when facing Robbinsville in the coming years in a 38-6 thumping.
“This was a complete team-effort win,” Knights head coach Wren Millsaps said. “The offensive and defensive fronts completely dominated on both sides of the ball, and four different guys scored touchdowns.
“If we get in better shape – and cut out the penalties – the sky is the limit for this group.”
Two rushing touchdowns were posted by Adair Panama – in the first and third segments – while Tillman Adams led the ground game with 187 yards on just 14 carries. His crowning achievement came in the second stanza, when he broke free for a 53-yard dash to the house. Quarterback Luke Lovin ran in the two-point conversion.
Wrapped around Panama and Adams’ scores were a pair of touchdown carries from Isiac Collins (two yards in the first quarter) and Ryleon Waldroup (11 yards, fourth quarter).
Stat leaders for the Black Knights defense were Kasen Buchanan (three tackles, one assist and one sack) and Kyzik Teesateskie (two tackles, three assists).
