Robbinsville finishes as state runner-up
Greensboro – At the culmination of the two-day, N.C. High School Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Tournament, four Graham County grapplers departed with state gold.
Robbinsville senior Kyle Fink (182 pounds, 46-4); sophomore Kage Williams (195, 35-1); senior Ben Wachacha (220, 40-6) and sophomore Alexis Panama (106, 26-6) each stood atop the podium Saturday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Overall, the Knights had nine wrestlers at the tournament, with two others reaching the championship finals (Carlos Wesley, 285 and Jayden Nowell, 126); one reaching the consolation finals (Jaret Panama, 145); and both Logan Hyde (120) and Zane Lucksavage (138) also competing in wrestle-backs.
Robbinsville finished the tournament with 134 team points, good for second place in 1A. Avery County won its third-straight 1A championship, recording 196 points.
