Lucksavage to don Trojan singlet
Robbinsville – After a well-traveled life, Zane Lucksavage finally has some stability to look forward to.
The Black Knights senior inked a commitment to wrestle for Colby Community College (Kan.), a National Junior College Athletic Association facility that competes in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
“I’m a little nervous, but I’m excited,” Lucksavage said. “I’m going to live on my own, in a place I’m not familiar with.”
The very definition of an “Army Brat,” Lucksavage was attracted to wrestling while his family was stationed in Germany. He has lived in six states – including Kansas, which makes his signing with Colby Community his second stay in the Sunflower State – and actually began his varsity career in Alaska, earning him the endeared nickname of the “Alaskan Assassin.”
Lucksavage also had a stint at Hayesville, but joined the Robbinsville program for his senior campaign. He finished his career with a 39-10 record.
“All through high school, I didn’t want to wrestle in college,” Lucksavage admitted. “But after my last match at state, I realized I wasn’t done. I wasn’t happy with how it ended,” (Lucksavage reached the 1A, 138-pound semifinals before being eliminated).
Lucksavage sifted through several NAIA schools before settling on Colby Community.
“It’s a smaller atmosphere at the school and the tuition cost was a lot lower,” Lucksavage said.
He is undecided on a major.
