Robbinsville takes sweep at Nantahala
Nantahala – Set to embark on a 3-game loop through 75 percent of the Little Smoky Mountain Conference, Robbinsville’s time on the road was limited to just one game last week.
A trip to nearby Nantahala School in Macon County was quite favorable to the Knights program, as both varsity squads improved to 10-2 with sizable wins over the Hawks.

In the girls game, the Knights held a 12-6 lead at the outset of the second. Liz Carpenter and Suri Watty came to life in the segment to ensure things did not get out of hand. Carpenter dropped five buckets in the stanza, while Watty hit three from inside the arc and one from outside.
Dressing out just six players, Nantahala could only match its first-quarter production in response; Robbinsville wrapped up the quarter with 31 more in the book.
Carpenter finished the night with a Robbinsville-best 20 points. Watty recorded 11, while Bentley Riggins posted eight. Elsewhere on the scorelinefor the Lady Knights were Aubrie Wachacha 7; Claire Barlow, Maleah Cox and Memory Frapp, 4 each; Abby Wehr 3; and Novie Dutcher 2.
The Black Knights took a 20-13 lead into the second period of the boys contest; by halftime, Robbinsville had erupted and went on a 41-8 run.
Coming out of the crowded scoreline at the top were both Dane Knott and Kenyon Swimmer, who had 11 each. Roman Jones finished with 10, while Bryce Adams put up nine.
Filling out the offense was Darion Ledbetter 8; Isaiah Brown, Quinn Jumper and Kyzik Teesateskie, 7 each; Logan Callaway, Luke Lovin and Nathanael Shope, 4 apiece; and Trey Lambert 2.
A trip to Blue Ridge School on Friday was postponed; the game has been rescheduled as a home affair for Robbinsville at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7 and will now serve as Senior Night.
Winter weather forced the postponement of Tuesday’s journey to Hiwassee Dam; a make-up date had not been determined by Wednesday’s press deadline.
