Lady Knights get into win column at tri-match
Loxston Hooper’s joined Robbinsville’s growing lineage of 100-win grapplers Saturday.
During the Trojan Duals in Catawba, Hooper scored an 18-1 technical fall over Bandys’ Luke Falasca in Robbinsville’s second match of the day, giving the 132-pounder a chance to step into the spotlight and relish the moment on the mat.
The Black Knights went on to defeat Bandys 49-30 and – coupled with an opening victory against Marvin Ridge, 62-18 – advance to face the South Caldwell Spartans. Robbinsville (6-3) dropped the dual 43-32 and continued to lose closely-contested matches: 46-34 against Kings Mountain and 40-38 to Fred T. Foard.
Despite the losses, Robbinsville came out ahead 4-3 overall for the week. A tri-match at T.C. Roberson on Nov. 20 resulted in a sweep: the Hendersonville Bearcats fell 59-23, while the hosting Rams fell 50-30.
Lady Knights
Robbinsville’s girls program got into the win column last week, also sweeping the competition at T.C. Roberson. The Lady Knights bested Hendersonville via tiebreaker, 31-30; before toppling the Lady Rams 33-24.
Bouts contested against the Lady Cats saw Julia Vazquez (114) and Jacquline Gayosso (145) each suffer pinfalls, but Cheyanne Geyer (152) pinned Anayeli Salitre in 1:35 to secure the dual for Robbinsville (2-3). Cecilia Maney (185), Aubree Marcus (235), Izabel Haney (107) and Alexis Miller (120) each secured forfeit wins for the Knights.
Geyer picked up a 10-8 decision over Roberson’s Ireland Carolan in the nightcap, while Gayosso fell against Lily Reese. Forfeit victories were afforded to Haney, Miller, Maney and Marcus.
Robbinsville also competed at Saturday’s Lady Mustang Invitational, which was held at East Lincoln. Latesha Orr (100) finished second in her weight class, while Alyssa Bohn (165) claimed third and Miller took fourth in the field. Other Knights that competed in the tournament were Velvet Carver (107), Haney, Vazquez, Cable, Gayosso, Geyer, Maney and Marcus.
